Omicron Detected Entering West Papua

Merdeka.com - The West Papuan Police Chief, Inspector General Tornagogo Sihombing said, currently the Omicron variant has been detected in West Papua. This can be seen from the 10 samples that were checked, the results were 7 which indicated the Omicron variant.


"We have sent 10 samples out of 10 samples, 7 of which are the Omicron variant. So we clearly show that the Omicron variant has entered West Papua," he said during a dialogue with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in a virtual connection broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube account, Thursday. He explained, until now there have been 1,819 people who are self-isolating. Consisting of 1,647 patients who are in centralized isolation and 155 patients are undergoing nursing at the hospital.


Meanwhile, Tornagogo also explained that the hospital's occupancy capacity could still be resolved. Then he said that for now there is no death rate in West Papua due to the Omicron variant.


"The mortality rate is 0 for the Omicron variant," he concluded.


For information, the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) stated that the finding of the Omicron case in Papua Province is evidence of infection due to the new variant that is increasingly widespread in Indonesia.
